About the World Doctors Orchestra
Uniting Medicine and Music for Global Impact
The World Doctors Orchestra (WDO) is a unique international ensemble of physicians who share a passion for music and a deep commitment to global health. Founded in 2008, WDO brings together doctors from around the world to perform benefit concerts in support of medical and humanitarian causes.
What we do
Four times a year, WDO musicians meet for intensive rehearsals and public performances in renowned concert halls across the globe. Each concert benefits one or more nonprofit medical aid organizations, with proceeds going directly to support healthcare initiatives in local communities.
Since its inception, WDO has:
Performed over 70 concerts in 40 sessions across 5 continents
Raised nearly €2 million for charitable medical causes
Reached international audiences in venues like Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonie, and Tokyo Metropolitan Theater
How we operate
WDO is a non-profit organization based in Berlin, Germany, with a U.S. affiliate, World Doctors Orchestra, Inc., responsible for concert development in North America.
Each concert is organized by member volunteers, with minimal administrative staff and overhead. All musicians donate toward expenses, ensuring that the majority of funds benefit the supported charities.
Our mission
At its core, the World Doctors Orchestra believes that music and medicine share the power to heal. Our mission is to promote the idea that healthcare is a fundamental human right and to raise awareness through the universal language of music.
A global movement
Beyond our full orchestra concerts, WDO members often organize chamber music ensembles, partner with local musicians, and perform pre-concerts for hospital staff and patients—deepening our impact in the communities we serve.
